Critical Analysis: Significant colocation pattern detection

Mining interaction patterns may lead to important observations in a variety of domains such as ecology, biology, epidemiology, earth science and transportation. For example, in biology, it is well known that Nile crocodiles are often seen together with Egyptian plovers, showing a pattern of colocation. Conversely, there is usually competition between the same kind of species which yields patterns of segregation. Identifying these patterns are of interest to domain experts. In addition, the false positives should be filtered out otherwise they may cost resources and efforts in domain studies.
